Walk like an Egyptian

Halloween came this year with a chill, a temporary stay from the almost continual rain, and another year's Trunk-or-Treat at the church. Some genius had the bright idea for a family theme for costumes. The same genius thought it would be less expensive and cool to try and make costume stuff. Hmmm...trying to buy cloth, ribbon, thread, accessories, etc. for 4 children (okay, 3 and a teenager) and the TIME it takes to create them put the idea of costumes for the grownups right out of the picture.

However, the Egyptians ended up looking pretty good with the some sewing, a generous dollop of costume-store additions, and judicious use of eye-liner!
Pharaoh had a guard and two princesses, though he eventually shed most of the costume and ended up wandering around in just his tunic and eyeliner, perhaps transforming into Joseph during his Egyptian slave days.

There are no pictures of the Mummy, though she wandered though the carnival games taking pictures and herding her little children of the Nile from place to place. However, the Daddy was seen guarding the Cauldron of Candy, dispensing largess upon all the costumed masses that uttered the magic words "Trick or Treat." He wasn't dressed up, unless you count the fact that he is living in De Nile.

All the children had a good time playing games and going from trunk to trunk begging for treats. It was a success as an event, but as for family themes, it might be best if that idea was given a nice burial in the Valley of the Kings. Unless next year we want to walk like Vikings!
