The Wise Man and the Foolish Man

The wise man built his house upon a rock. But the foolish man failed to consider just how to drain a septic system on said rock! A house built on solid rock means there is a very small drain field for the septic system, especially when there is a lot of groundwater. And apparently the amount of groundwater has increased significantly since we bought the house. When the health inspector peeked under the water meter cover to see if there might be an unknown leak in the main line, we saw that enough water was seeping into the hole for a crayfish to have taken up residence. There has never been water there before. It can't be a leak from the septic field lines since THAT leak is a small spring near our driveway. The thought is that groundwater is seeping into the field lines, and possibly the septic tank directly, overloading the system so that detergent bubbles out of the ground when I do laundry. The front yard is the only drain field we have. The back yard, a gently sloping hill that is perfect for riding down in wagons, is solid rock with probably less than 2' of soil cover. So all the water runs from down the hill somewhere into the front yard, which is now a soggy mess close to the street. We are trying to collect all the rocks that were dug up when the field lines were replaced so that we can toss down some grass seed and have a respectable-looking front yard again, but that task is like moving sand from a beach with a teaspoon. So until a viable solution is found (likely costing lots of money), let us know if you are coming to visit and I will run some detergent through the wash to mask the more prevalent odors. Forecast is lots of rain tomorrow - mud bath, anyone?

WOW! That doesn't sound so good. But it does remind me of the time that George made me and Wendy mud wrestle in the garden!
Hope you guys find a solution soon!
